ABOUT TED KARR
Ted is an accomplished attorney who has represented many Fortune 500 companies. He is currently the managing partner of a boutique law firm with offices in Portland, Oregon, and Austin, Texas. Ted grew up in the church, in a family of 7, with loving Christian parents. He has an appetite for studying the Bible in order to discover God’s truths and unlock the mysteries that can only be appreciated through regular meditation on the Word. Ted wrote this book after reflecting on his own prayer life and diving into scripture to unlock the mystery as to why it seems some prayers are answered and some are not. Ted is married to his wife, Stephanie, for over 29 years. He has four children, Madison, Kallista, Joshua, and Caleb, who are all followers of Jesus, by the grace of God. He and his family live in the Hill Country of Austin, Texas where they are active partners at Austin Ridge Bible Church.
I love Ted’s passion for Christ! It is that passion that drives his motivation for and the content of this book. In Need, Pray, Listen, you will not only hear stories of Ted’s personal discipleship in prayer, but a scriptural anchor that can (and should!) lead all of us in our journey in prayer. I found myself being refined, challenged and encouraged as I read! I highly recommend this book.
- Don Ellsworth, Missions Pastor, Austin Ridge Bible Church
Ted’s book, Need Pray Listen, is a very approachable and practical dive into petitioning prayer. It starts where most of us are… asking God to move, heal or provide for the people and situations in our lives. His stories could be anyone’s stories which is what makes the book so readable. If you are looking for a practical starting point for talking with God, Need Pray Listen is a great place to begin!
- Tim McDonald, Lead Pastor, A Jesus Church
In his book, A Grief Observed― C.S. Lewis noted that sometimes our questions of God are unanswerable. “How many hours are in a mile? Is yellow square or round? Probably half the questions we ask - half our great theological and metaphysical problems - are like that.” He writes. And in his words is an invitation to mature. What if prayer is about forming us, inviting us into a trusting friendship with God. What if prayer is an invitation to mature in love and grow in trust and understanding. In Need, Pray, Listen, Ted Karr shares his faith journey. He writes, “Every prayer has a purpose. They reflect our communication with our Creator.” With practical, step by step, disciplines and principles, Ted explores prayer’s purpose, invites the reader to mature in faith, and along the way to discover better questions. I am thankful for Ted and believe his insight and discovery will encourage many a reader’s faith!
